ECA End of Year Administrative Information – June 6, 2022.

Dear ECA Community,

After another very busy and productive year at ECA here we are with only 4 days of school remaining. Please find below many important administrative notices for your review and reference.

  1. ECA Annual) Report 2021-2022: This link will take you to this year’s annual report which was approved by the ECA Board of Directors on June 3, 2022. Here are my annual report concluding remarks:

“ECA’s COVID biosecurity protocols worked effectively throughout the school year. The community again showed customary flexibility, resilience and creativity as we continued to provide a safe, robust learning experience for students regardless of the circumstances occurring outside of the ECA campus. The continued dedication, motivation and professional work of ECA faculty and staff contributed to making what was an initially challenging year ultimately a successful one. On behalf of the ECA Board of Directors and ECA Faculty and staff, I thank the ECA parent community for their sustained support during this academic year.

I wish departing community members well with their new learning destinations. I congratulate the ECA graduating class of 2022 and wish them success with learning and their lives beyond the gates of ECA. I encourage ECA graduates to keep in touch with each other and with Escuela Campo Alegre!

I hope that all community members have safe vacations, stay safe, healthy and well, so that we can resume learning together again On Campus on Monday August 15, 2022.”

A very busy week with a slow yet steady return to on campus events at ECA. We had High School soccer game against the British School on Wednesday, the superb National Symphony Orchestra concert and cocktail celebration on Thursday, a well organized and received secondary Art Exhibition in Star Plaza, an unexpected Fire Drill which kept us on our toes, elementary and middle school Impulse soccer games against Washington school on Friday afternoon, the TOEFL exam and a great Aquathlon event on Saturday. Next week, with the three weeks of school remaining, we have transition activities, admissions testing, a Grade 4 Market Place activity and High School exams.

On Campus – Online Learning Information Update

Dear ECA Parents,

Hello. We tried this week to keep an On Campus Learning program operating. Unfortunately, by Thursday, due to the many positive cases of COVID amongst students, family members and faculty we had to systematically send students home to receive online learning.

Today Nursery, Grade 1A, IB, Grade 3 and 4 students are learning on campus but, due to individual Covid infections, with reduced student attendance.

During next week other grade levels will slowly and systematically return, on different days, to school according to the schedule determined by ECA’s biosecurity protocols.

As the situation is continually evolving, please carefully refer to the notices and information updates about possible changes to schedules and activities which will be sent to you by Michelle Till (Elementary Principal), Julia Baranowsky (Middle School Dean), and Cynthia Abdallah (High School Dean).

ECA Revised Covid /Quarantine Protocols @ January 17 2022

The Nurse will continue to monitor circumstances and in consultation with the school administrative team will communicate class closure and opening decisions to the community.

Faculty will send anyone at school with symptoms (stomachache, cold symptoms, sore throat, cough, headache…) IMMEDIATELY to the Nurse’s Office.

Parents please keep anyone with symptoms (stomachache, cold symptoms, sore throat, cough, headache etc…) at home and consult with the Nurse.

Thank you for your understanding and support during the challenges we face with returning to and maintaining On Campus learning and successfully completing learning objectives for this school year.

I will send another community information update by 4 pm Friday,  January 28.

For Your Information: Nurse’s Answers to Recent Parent Questions:

  • What Covid tests are required by the School?

We accept both antigen (nasal swab) or PCR (nasal swab) tests. To ensure reliability the test results must have a QR code.

  • Are the tests the school is providing for Employees approved by the Ministry of Health?

Yes – the tests purchased and used by the school are approved by the Ministry of Health.

  • Why are some classes returning to school before others?

ECA quarantines an elementary class for 7 days after the last contact with the person with Covid. On a few occasions, students have been absent for 2 or more days before being diagnosed with Covid and this reduces quarantine days because we start counting days since the first day of symptoms.

  • Why do I have to test now prior to returning when we did not need to test before?

We have had to review our protocols since Omicron high transmissibility emerged. Omicron generally causes mild to no symptoms which were being ignored or dismissed by many community members. Testing all students before a return to school will help to minimize the spread of infection and reduce futute class closures.

  • My child returns to school after being in quarantine, when should I test my child?

You should test your child no more than 2 days before the return date.

  • Will my child´s class be sent home to quarantine again if there is another positive case in his grade?

Yes, the class will need to quarantine each time there is a positive case within the class For this reason it is so important to follow ECA protocols and keep your child home if experiencing ANY Covid symptoms.

  • Did the majority of parents fill out the Questionnaire after each long school break?

No – the majority of ECA parents did not complete the Questionnaire. This is the main reason for the long lines to enter the school on the first days back to school. We need your trust and support by interacting with and giving the nurse this information.

  • How can I help ECA minimize the spread of the virus?

Prior to returning to school:

1.-Fill out the questionnaire and

2.-Send test results to the Nurse or your child will not be allowed to enter the school campus.

ECA Covid Survey Link – Please Complete.

  • What percentage of the ECA learning community is vaccinated?

95% of ECA employees are vaccinated, and from information we have received so far from you, 43% of Middle School and 66% of High School students are fully vaccinated. PLEASE HELP US ACCURATELY UPDATE THIS INFORMATION:

ECA Covid Survey Link – Please Complete.

  • How do I submit a vaccine certificate?

Send your childś vaccine certificate to: nurse_department@ecak12  if you have not done so already. Thank you.

Please work with the nurse department to keep the ECA community safe and well.

Terry Christian – ECA Superintendent.

Revised Covid Contact/Quarantine Protocols – January 15, 2022.

Once again COVID and circumstances beyond our control have forced us to quickly respond and to modify school routines to keep an On Campus Learning program operating. On Monday we had 45% student attendance and on Friday 59% of available students attended. By Friday the following classes were operating online: PreK A, Grade 1A, Grade 2 and Grade five.

Beginning Monday, January 17 we will use revised protocols, the Nurse will monitor circumstances and in consultation with the school will communicate decisions to the community.

Please carefully refer to the notices and information updates about possible changes to schedules and activities which will be sent to you by Michelle Till (Elementary Principal), Julia Baranowsky, and Cynthia Abdallah (High School Dean).

Revised Covid Contact/Quarantine Protocols:

Due to Omicron´s high transmissibility we have updated our protocols for Covid Contact in the Secondary School. Below please find below our new protocols:

Whenever there is a contact with a positive case:

Secondary Students: Fully Vaccinated students will be sent home to quarantine for 3 days. Unvaccinated students will quarantine for 7 days. Every student is required to test before their return (test on the 3rd or 7th day accordingly)Test results,  with QR code, must be sent to nurse_department@ecak12.com

Elementary Students: All students quarantine for 7 days, test on day 5 or later, and if negative, return on day 8 if they have no symptoms. Test results. with QR code, must be sent to nurse_department@ecak12.com

Without exception, all test results must have a QR code in order for your child to return to class.

For any questions or concerns, please contact: nurse_department@ecak12.com

______________________________________________________

Debido a la alta transmisibilidad de Omicron, hemos actualizado nuestros protocolos cuando hay Contacto con Covid en Secundaria. A continuación encontrará nuestros nuevos protocolos.

With effect from September 1, 2021, we have contracted a well qualified bilingual candidate Ana Cristina Oteyza for this position. Ana Cristina has a long career in Public Relations in Venezuela, and for the last five years has worked at a private school in Chicago, Illinois. On your behalf I welcome Ana to ECA. During the course of September Ana will be getting to know school routines and the ECA community.

In relation to objectives 3 and 5 we shall be reorganising how the Superintendent’s Office functions so as to ensure that there is a smooth administrative transition, to a new ECA Superintendent by August 2023, Titi Salazar will assume the role of Superintendent’s Office Administrator.

There are still many parents who have not submitted PCR/antigen test results to the nurse. In order to ensure the health and the safety of the community and to sustain on-campus learning students will not be able to attend on campus until negative test results are submitted. This can be done by sending the test results by email to michelleb@ecak12.comThank you for your support with this important biosecurity measure.

ECA Academic Year 2021-2022 – Start Up Information

 Dear ECA Parents,

Hello again, I hope that this communication finds you and your family in good health and enjoying the last few weeks of the summer vacation.

After evaluating medical advice, other factors and as a result of Board discussions, ECA’s Pedagogical Support Activities and learning will begin Face to Face On Campus on Monday, August 16.

Thereafter ECA is committed to safely operating an on campus learning program, with strict biosecurity protocols in place, but as determined by government regulations/permissions, Covid health restrictions and any other restrictive or travel related factors which may occur in the future.

Each week as circumstances develop we will give the ECA community information updates related to school operations and activities.

On Friday, August 6, 2021 Michelle Till, Julia Baranowsky and Cynthia Abdallah will be sending general information related to daily/weekly planning, learning and start-up activities for the first week of school.

By 4 pm Wednesday, August 11, class and subject teachers will be sending specific information about specific schedules and requirements for the first week of on campus learning activities.

It is important to read and observe the following COVID and biosecurity information:

Many members of the ECA community will be returning from travel, and while it is true, many will have been vaccinated, they would still present a threat to ECA community members who have not received the vaccine. We must therefore take health and safety precautions and observe biosecurity protocols.

  1. a) Centres for Disease Control & Prevention(CDC) Information:

¨Even fully vaccinated travelers might be at increased risk for getting and possibly spreading some COVID-19 variants.¨

– People returning from international travel who are vaccinated do not need to self-quarantine, but they do have to PCR or antigen test themselves on the 3rd to 5th day of return.

– People returning from international travel who have not been fully vaccinated (14 days after the last dose of the vaccine) should get PCR or antigen tested on the 3rd to 5th day after travel and should self-quarantine for 7 days. If they do not get PCR or antigen tested, they should quarantine for 10 days and carefully observe for any Covid symptoms.

– Fully vaccinated people who come in contact with someone who has had Covid do not need to be quarantined if they have no symptoms.

– People who have had Covid in the past 3 months do not need to be quarantined if they come in contact with someone who has Covid.

Any member of the ECA community returning from travel, must follow the CDC guidelines as detailed above before students can enter the school campus.

  1. b) ECA Covid Information Update

* Nurse Michelle Belloso will soon be sending a Covid Health Information survey to all parents. This must be completed and submitted before 4 pm, August 10, 2021. Students will not be able to resume On Campus learning until the survey is satisfactorily submitted to the Nurse’s Office.

All ECA students need to be PCR or antigen tested at least three days before they begin On Campus learning. Negative test results must be submitted to nurse_department@ecak12.com by August 15th in order for your child to attend on the first day of school.

*  ECA is arranging, for all faculty and staff, to have received the first dose of the vaccine before August 13, 2021.

* ECA shall PCR or antigen test all ECA faculty and staff at least three days prior to starting on campus learning.

* Should you have any Covid or health related questions please consult the school nurse Michelle Belloso: michelleb@ecak12.com

  1. c) ECA On Campus Biosecurity Protocols

* Until further notice we will maintain the mandatory implementation of our previous biosecurity protocols for everyone in the community, vaccinated or unvaccinated:

  • the use of appropriately sized face masks without filters
  • entrance temperature checks
  • hand washing/use of sanitizer
  • observing on campus social distancing protocols
  • limited adult community access by appointment only to specifically assigned areas of the ECA campus

Students will be sent home if they fail to comply with the above protocols.

Each and every ECA community member must assume the responsibility to look out for the health of others in the community both inside and outside of school.

  1. Here is the link to Dr. Vega’s Zoom Vaccine Advice Webinar (53 minutes long).
